MDW and C+T Wedding

Extremely late posting...

I love Memorial Day Weekend because it's so unexpected, it's the mark of the beginning of summer, bbq's, and generally just being with family.  The last couple of years we've spent it with Layton's family at their cabin in South Fork canyon.  They have kayaks and a raft that we do a river run with down the Provo river.  I love these runs!

I wrote a blog post about our river run last year when just Layton, his brother Clark and me participated.  It was literally a downpour the entire time, it was so fun and I have such good memories about it.  This year the sun shone bright and the wind blew hard.  Layton and I almost always go in a two person kayak together (he steers and makes sure I get super wet).  Near where we end and get out of the river there is a rock some daring people like to jump off of into the river where it's deepest.  I have never jumped off this rock and the river was FREEZING this year.  But I couldn't be the only one not to do it so I did! I jumped in TWICE! Each time the water stung my skin and took my breath away but I was so happy I did it.

We had a bbq later and my sister, her husband, their little girl and corgi came up for that.  It was really fun and I never like to see the end of these weekends.  Wesley loves being around people and the action (#FOMO) so these weekends are perfect for him.

Sunday of the weekend was Layton's sister, Merideth's birthday.  She loves sweets more than anyone I know so I decided to make her a chocolate truffle pie.  It was uhhmazing.  It was so rich and no one could finish their piece (except me >_<).  Layton's family has a tradition of sharing why they love the birthday person.  It's a great time to focus on the positives in relationships and to celebrate them

It was a great weekend and I look forward to so many more like it.  It will be so fun when Wesley is old enough to go down the river with us and to see the joy and excitement he gets out of it.

June 4th.  Layton's brother Clark got married to an awesome girl, Tara, that I am so happy to call the next in law!  I've been the only one for two years (and it has been glorious).  Tara is a wonderful addition to the family.  They had a reception the night before on Friday and it was spectacular.  It was held in a gorgeous backyard in Highland with whimsical decorations of pictures (old and new) an old red truck, croquet, a ring toss, life size Jenga, beautiful flowers, and lights.  They did it right.  We had cold stone ice cream and so much good company.  I love receptions but always feel bad for the bride and groom because they are usually so burned out by the end of the day and there's still so many people who want to talk to them and I'm sure all they want is to leave.  I think having a reception the night before is the way to go!

The sealing was the next day in the beautiful, newly rebuilt and reopened, Provo City Center Temple.  They kept it close and small.  I felt so privileged to be a part of their special day.  Before the sealing they had a brunch in the Bell Room across the street from the temple.  All the siblings and some aunts and uncles gave tributes to Clark and Tara.  Most of the time there wasn't a dry eye in the room.  It was so sweet and special to focus on them and hear the beautiful thoughts on marriage, the Temple, the Savior and them.  I am so happy for them and happy they are now sealed for eternity.
